PROJECTS
The RAPTER group is and has been involved with a wide variety of projects. Below is a brief overview of some of such projects.

Saftey Inspector Training & Certification Program

Safety InspectionThe Computer-Based Safety Inspector Training and Certification Program is a webbased intervention that uses blended applications to train and certify those involved in Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspection in the following areas:
  • Identifying how the basic systems on a CMV work.
  • Identifying CMV parts and their common failure points.
  • Understanding and applying the federal regulations, their interpretations, and the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria during a Level I Inspection.

Virtual Check-Ride System

The VCRS is a virtual representation of the Federal Commercial Driver License (CDL) test, consisting of a blend of simulation and computerbased training technology. It utilizes a virtual environment to assess the VCRS in actioncritical knowledge and skills mandated by the Federal CDL requirements. This is followed by a tailored remediation focused on the areas diagnosed by the “check-ride” phase.

Elements and Scenarios include:

  • CDL Knowledge
  • Vehicle Inspection
  • Precision Maneuvers
  • Urban Situations
  • Freeway Activities
  • Rural Situations

Federal Law Enforcement Training Center: Combined Skills Course

FLETC Combined Skills CourseThe RAPTER group has recently completed a preliminary analysis and assessment to determine performance requirements, learning outcomes and functional needs for the new Combined Skills Course at FLETC and to begin considering where certain issues could be enhanced by the use of simulators. The results of this first effort pointed out several areas that fit this need. In our current effort we will be planning ways to establish a process for formal skills practice, improving the processes for evaluation and feedback, and create a series of blended technologies that could augment classroom presentations to include computer based training, desk top simulation and driving simulators.

Prime Skills System

The Prime Skills System is a performance improvement system created to enhance and certify fundamental skills required for success on the job. These skills include the behaviors associated with high achievement in the following competencies:
    PrimeSkills in action
  • Listening
  • Behavior Management
  • Speaking
  • Teamwork
  • Problem Solving and
    Decision Making
  • Leadership
  • Creative Thinking
  • Ethics

Games Research

Commercial Driver’s License Training
Building off of a previous RAPTER project, the Virtual Check Ride - which validated the effectiveness of a virtual alternative to the CDL process, this current project utilizes the same criteria as the VCRS but focuses on Level 1 simulation, e.g. PC games.

Games ResearchTerrorism Awareness for
Truck Drivers

Idea is to allow truckers to experience a potential hijacking or other dangerous situation in the virtual world first.

Port / Warehouse Security
RAPTER developed material in conjunction with Port / Warehouse security for use with security personnel in an effort to find alternative means of training for detection of suspicious activity and possible terrorist threats to national security.
